A shiny coat, supple skin and a dog or cat that stays happily on the move: omega-3 fatty acids play an important part in all of that. Yet many pets get very little of them from their food. Dry food in particular often contains a lot of omega-6 and relatively little omega-3.
Treatsy Omega-3 Oil is a complementary feed for dogs and cats that helps restore that balance. The oil is high in EPA (18%) and DHA (12%): 162 mg EPA and 108 mg DHA per millilitre. It is made from wild-caught oily fish from Icelandic waters: herring, anchovy, smelt and mackerel. With the dosing pump, you can easily add the right amount to the food. It is part of Treatsy Veterinary Care, the line that is also recommended by vets.
Skin and coat
EPA and DHA contribute to healthy skin and a shiny coat. They support the skin's natural barrier function.
Supple joints
Omega-3 fatty acids support supple joints. That's why the oil is also a great addition for older and active pets.
The right balance between omega-3 and omega-6
Dogs and cats need both omega-3 and omega-6, but the ratio matters at least as much as the amount. For dogs, a ratio of 5:1 to 10:1 (omega-6:omega-3) is often recommended, and for cats around 5:1 to 7:1. In many foods, especially cheaper kibble, that ratio is out of balance. An omega-3 supplement helps restore it.
Wild fish feed on algae and plankton, the natural source of omega-3. That gives wild-caught fish a richer fatty acid profile than farmed fish, which are often fed omega-6-rich feed. Treatsy deliberately chooses oily fish species that are naturally high in EPA and DHA.
1 pump = 2 ml = 324 mg EPA + 216 mg DHA. Add the oil to the food daily.
| Pumps per day | 5 kg | 10 kg | 20 kg | 30 kg | 40 kg |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skin & coat | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| Supple joints | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
Cats: follow the 5 kg column. Tip: build up the amount gradually over the first few days so your pet can get used to the oil. If your pet is on a special diet, ask your vet about the right amount.
How long does a bottle last? A 250 ml bottle contains about 125 pumps. At 1 pump a day, a bottle lasts just over 4 months.
Oil from wild-caught oily fish (herring, anchovy, smelt, mackerel). Contains 162 mg EPA and 108 mg DHA per ml.
Crude protein 0.00%, crude fat 98.46%, crude ash 0.00%, crude fibre 0.00%, sodium 0.00%
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. No need to refrigerate. Close the pump properly after use.
Is Treatsy Omega-3 Oil suitable for cats?
Yes. The oil is suitable for both dogs and cats. For a cat, 1 pump a day is the standard amount.
How do I give the oil?
Pump the oil straight onto wet or dry food. Most dogs and cats love the fishy taste.
When will I see a difference in the coat?
Skin and coat renew in a cycle of several weeks. That's why it's best to give the oil daily for at least 6 to 8 weeks, ideally as a fixed part of the routine.
Why do EPA and DHA matter more than "omega-3" in general?
Plant-based omega-3 (ALA, for example from flaxseed) has to be converted into EPA and DHA in the body. Dogs can only do this to a limited extent, and cats barely at all. Fish oil provides EPA and DHA directly.
My dog is on an elimination diet. Can I add this?
The oil contains no proteins and no vegetable oil. Always check with your vet when your dog is on an elimination diet.
Can I combine it with a joint supplement?
Yes. Omega-3 oil is often combined with Treatsy Mobility or Treatsy Mobility +25.
Does the bottle need to go in the fridge?
No. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
